How did the name Hexer Stoze come about?
The search for character names is often arduous, but sometimes magic happens. I had the need to write and hadn’t found the world I wanted to write in, it was always there on the edge of my consciousness, pushing at me.
I remember it well, I was speaking to someone in America and made the comment that it was “As cold as a witch’s toes!” outside in Germany that morning and that made my definitely strange mind head off down the rabbit hole.
A witch’s toes, I thought to myself, that’s kind of one sided. Male witches have toes too, but then, “Cold as a Warlock’s toes!” just doesn’t have the same zing. So, speaking a bit of German, I wondered… What would a male witch be called in German? It happens that the word for a male witch is…
Hexer! Ta-daaaaa!
From there it wasn’t much of a leap to “It’s cold as a Hexer’s toes” and from there- from there Hexer Stoze was born, stumbling full formed into my head and demanding I write for him a place where he could be Hexer. In keeping with the cold theme, Holmstrand, fabled city of ice and shoddy carpentry was created along with all the rest of Hyperboredia.
